CS-RCS allows a secured read and write access to CS-RCS projects from any workstation via the Internet. This allows co-workers to work with shared documents and development projects from anywhere by using any Internet browser. All that is needed is to install the RCSBrowser add-on on your CS-RCS server - no additional software installation required on the client workstations.

RCSBrowser gives you the power to check-in changes or add new documents to the repository, synchronize user changes, compare document revisions, track document history, retrieve any past revision and much more.

On CS-RCS Pro, RCSBrowser supports many project-level features, including project milestones, change analysis, change lifecycle control and workflow management.

The RCSBrowser add-on is easy to configure (configuration required for server only), uses standard protocols and supports secured SSL communications.

The diagram below demonstrates a typical environment of RCSBrowser.

The environment consists of the following components:
·RCS Server
·Local clients on LAN
·Remote laptop clients connected over the internet
·Workstation at customer site or employee home connected over the internet
·Internet terminal at hotel or Internet Café

Note: If you currently do not need remote access to projects and extended security, you may skip this chapter. You may add RCSBrowser to your existing setup at any time in the future.

The benefits of the RCSBrowser solution are:

·Co-located projects - CS-RCS supports in-site projects and small network projects stored on FTP or NetBIOS servers. RCSBrowser implements Client-Server architecture which provides optimized access to co-located projects over Internet and intranet networks.

·Security - CS-RCS supports security settings which are sufficient in most scenarios. The server security features protect the repository from any unauthorized access by non-team members and external users. However, as the repository resides on a shared server drive, it may be exposed to unauthorized access by non-cooperative team members. The RCSBrowser Client-Server architecture protects the repository from any unauthorized and undesired change as required by mission-critical projects.

·Easy setup - You may easily activate the RCSBrowser solution at any stage if extended security and networking support is required for your projects. All you need to do is install the RCSBrowser add-on on your server - there is no need to install any software on the client workstations.

·Standard protocols – RCSBrowser runs under Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). No special security or firewall settings are required.

·Flexible clients – When traveling with your laptop computer, you may use the normal CS-RCS software to access Internet projects. You may also access Internet projects from Internet terminals at customers' sites or at hotels by using the standard Internet Browser.

·Continuous work – Perform check-in to your changes in order to make the updated project available to coworkers or to access it from another workstation. Files may also be edited locally. When you close the project, your work is automatically saved on the server. This enables you to change workstations without losing changes, e.g. when you leave the hotel and go to a customer site.

·Secured communication – All communication between the RCSBrowser server and clients can be encrypted by using the IIS SSL protocol.
