| 1. | Open the CS-RCS Properties dialog box (refer to Introduction in Customizing CS-RCS).

| 2. | Select the File Types tab.

| The File Types tab appears.

The Edit Extension dialog box allows you to define the following:
Select 'Save changes globally' to define the settings system-wide. This option is available for the Administrator only.
| · | In the Extension section, enter the file extension you want to add.
|
|
|
| · | In the Created as section, click one of the following to control how new files are created:
|
| · | Text – Creates a normal text file. CS-RCS converts the line-break sequence to conform to the platform standard.
|
| · | Binary – Creates a binary file. CS-RCS does not perform any translation or RCS keyword expansion for binary files.
|
| · | Ignore this type – Files of this type are not added to the Repository. This feature is normally used to exclude intermediate files while adding a complete folder hierarchy.
|
|
|
| · | When working with binary files, in the Archiving Mode section, select one of the following options to determine the way in which revisions are to be stored:
|
| · | Native RCS – When in this mode, CS-RCS stores revisions using the Native RCS reverse delta technique. This mode is recommended for text files although it may be used for binary files as well.
|
| · | Entire File – Use this mode only if storage space is not an issue since each revision will be stored in its entirety. This mode is recommended when archiving optimized files, for example ZIP or GIF files.
|
| · | Zipped – This is the recommended mode for binary files since each revision is zipped before storage, taking up much less space.
|
| · | Zipped Delta – The reverse delta technique is employed in this mode, except that each delta is then zipped. As this method may consume high level of CPU utilization, this mode is not recommended for most binary file types and should be used sparingly.
|
| · | Zipped XMLs Delta – This mode is designed for multiple files compressed into one zip, namely MS-Office 2007 and OpenOffice documents. Important: Do not use this mode for any other file type.
|
|
|
| · | In the Viewer section, select one of the following options to determine the tool used to display RCS revisions:
|
| · | Built-in – Uses an internal utility to view text files.
|
| · | Explorer association – No specific tool is set to view revisions. CS-RCS will use the tool defined by the Windows Explorer to view the file. Caution: Do not select this option for executable types, e.g. batch files.
|
| · | User defined – Specify any 3rd-party tool to view revisions of the documents. Uncheck Use long names if you use a tool that is not capable of handling long file names.
|
|
|
| · | In the Difference Analysis Tool section, select one of the following options to determine the tool used to graphically analyze the differences between revisions:
|
| · | By Eye – Use this option when a file difference tool is not available for this type. CS-RCS will display the base and revised revisions and you can analyze the change by eye.
|
| · | Custom Tool – Specify any 3rd-party tool to analyze differences made to documents of this type. Uncheck Use long names if you use a tool that is not capable of handling long file names.
|
| · | Excel (Add-on) - This option can be used when the CS-ExcelDiff add-on is installed. This selection is normally used for .xls and .xlw documents.
|
| · | Html (Add-on) - This option can be used when the CS-HTMLDiff add-on is installed. This selection is normally used for .htm and .html documents.
|
| · | Text (Built-in) – Displays rich-text difference analysis for text files.
|
| · | Winword (Built-in) - Invokes the Microsoft Word difference tool. This selection is normally used for .doc and .rtf documents.
|
| · | Xml (Add-on) - This option can be used when the CS-HTMLDiff add-on is installed. This selection is normally used for .xml documents.
|
|
|
| · | In the Merge Analysis Tool section, select one of the following to determine the tool used to analyze revision merge graphically: (this option is applicable to CVS mode and to the Branching and Merging functionality in CS-RCS Pro)
|
| · | Built-in – Uses the CS-RCS rich-text difference analysis tool.
|
| · | Custom Tool Base1– Specify any 3rd-party tool to analyze revision merge. Choose this option if the tool expects the base revision to appear as the 1st argument.
|
| · | Custom Tool Base2– Specify any 3rd-party tool to analyze revision merge. Choose this option if the tool expects the base revision to appear as the 2nd argument.
|
| · | Custom Tool Base3– Specify any 3rd-party tool to analyze revision merge. Choose this option if the tool expects the base revision to appear as the 3rd argument.
|
Note: When defining a Custom Tool with the Save changes globally option set, the tool must exist at the specified path on all workstation. Therefore, it is recommended to leave the global settings with the default values and define a Custom Tool only on specific workstations.
Click OK to save the new settings.
