How to Use this Manual
Top  Previous  Next

Even if you do not usually read manuals, or if you have experience with other version control systems, it is highly recommended that you read the Getting Started section. This section is necessary reading for understanding how to use CS-RCS and is designed to allow you to understand the basics within 30 minutes. If you are working in a workgroup, read both the Single-User Tutorial and the Workgroup Tutorial, as the Single-User Tutorial only describes basic CS-RCS functionality. If you have more than fifty files, read Working with Projects Tutorial.

Refer to the User Guide for more information on how to use the system after having gone through the Getting Started section.
When reading the User Guide, it is important to read Configuring Projects before reading Working with Project Milestones and Branching and Merging. All other sections of the User Guide can be understood independently of each other.

The following list explains in which section you can find information on these topics:

·For information on how to organize your files into projects, refer to Configuring Projects in the User Guide.

·To create a project milestone, refer to Working with Project Milestones in the User Guide.

·If you want to work on a set of files without affecting other files in that project, refer to Branching and Merging in the User Guide. (Pro edition only)

·For information on how to customize RCS, including files type and advanced properties, refer to Customizing CS-RCS in the User Guide.

·For information on what functionality CS-RCS adds to your Microsoft Office applications, as well as to other Windows tools, refer to Integration with Windows Tools in the User Guide.

·For information on generating and printing reports, refer to Generating CS-RCS Reports in the User Guide.

·For information about basic and advanced command-line interface, refer to Command-line Interface in the User Guide.

·For information about the various CS-RCS tools, refer to CS-RCS Tools in the User Guide.

If you require more information about CS-RCS after reading the User Guide, including operating procedures and troubleshooting, refer to Frequency Asked Questions (FAQ).
