Using the Change Explorer Tool - Introduction

The Change Explorer tool is used to analyze the changes between two milestones. (This feature is available on the Pro edition only.)

To activate the Change Explorer tool:
1.Open the Document Explorer (refer to Using the Document Explorer Tool in CS-RCS Tools).  
2.Switch to any project by selecting it from the Project drop-down list.  
OR  
From the Project menu, click Set Active Project.  
Select the desired project.  
Click OK.  
The project and all of its files appear.  
3.From the Milestones menu, click Analyze Changes.  
The Compare Milestones dialog box appears.  
4. Specify which base and revised milestones should be compared. For information on comparing milestone, refer to Comparing Milestones in Working with Project Milestones  
5.Click OK.  
 
The ComponentSoftware Change Explorer has three different modes.
These are By Document, By Change and Full Details and are describes in the following chapters.

The File menu enables you to perform the following:

·Click Analyze to compare the revisions of a selected file or change.  
·Click Revision History to view, retrieve, and compare the revisions of a selected file.  
·Click Set State to set the workflow state of the selected document or change. It is recommended to use this command in the By Change mode only. Setting states in the By Document and Full Details modes should be used in special situations as it may result in an Undetermined state on changes consisting of multiple documents. For more information, refer to Applying States.  
·Click Report By Document, Report By Changes or Report Full Details to generate a Milestone Difference Report according to the selected comparison mode. For more information about the Report Generator, refer to Using the Report Generator in Generating CS-RCS Reports.  
·Click Exit to close the ComponentSoftware Change Explorer.  
 
The View menu enables you to perform the following:
·Click By Document to view the milestone comparison in document mode.  
·Click By Change to view the milestone comparison in change mode.  
·Click Details to view the milestone comparison in full detail mode.  
·Click Unmodified Documents to include unchanged files in the By Document tab. This information is usually not needed.  
·Click Approved changes to include approved changes in the By Change tab. This information is usually not needed.  
·Click Toolbar to toggle the toolbar on and off.  
·Click Status Bar to toggle the status bar on and off.  
 
The Workflow menu enables you to perform the following:
·Click Properties to edit the workflow properties of the current project. For more information, see Defining the Change states in Change States and Workflow Management.  
·Click Define Range to set the workflow range for the current project. For more information, see Specifying the workflow range in Change States and Workflow Management.  
·Click Refresh to refresh the task view. Perform this action after the milestones being used as start or end points have been modified or when files have been modified by other users. When using Floating End Point, this action will bring the end point up to date.  
·Click Create Shortcut to create a Windows Desktop shortcut icon for the task view of the current project.
