Using the Document Explorer Tool - Introduction

The Document Explorer allows you to view and organize all files which are checked-into the Repository, as well as view general information about them. From the Document Explorer's Project menu, you can create projects and project milestones, branch, merge and generate reports.

To open the Document Explorer, perform one of the following:
From the Start menu, select Programs | ComponentSoftware | CS-RCS | Document Explorer.  
 
OR  
From your desktop, double-click . CS-RCS adds this icon to your desktop during the installation of CS-RCS. You can create shortcut icons to any project.  
 
OR  
 
Select the project within the Project Library (refer to Using the Project Library in Configuring Projects in the User Guide) and click Open.  
 
The Document Explorer appears:  
 
 
 
Before performing project-level operations, select a project in the Document Explorer.

To select a project in the Document Explorer:
From the Project drop-down list, select any project.  
OR  
From the Project menu, click Set Active Project.  
The Select dialog box appears displaying a project tree.  
From the project tree, select any project.  

Tip: Select All Documents to perform operations on all documents within the Repository.

To select the active branch in the Document Explorer: (CS-RCS Pro only.)
From the Branch drop-down list, select any branch.  
OR  
From the Project menu, click Set Active Branch.  
The Select dialog box appears displaying a branch tree.  
From the branch tree, select any branch.  

The document properties and Document Explorer menu commands are explained in the following sections.

In addition, the Document Explorer supports the following functionality:
·Select any project or folder in the left-hand tree to control which files will be displayed.  
·Right-click on any project, folder or document to execute item-specific commands.  
·Sort the list by clicking the desired column header. Re-click the same column header to reverse the sorting order.  
·To locate a specific document, click the Document Name column and type the first letters of the document's name.  
·Place your cursor over any document in the list to view the document's title, if available.  
·Double-click on any document to open the document with the application associated with the Windows Explorer Open command.
