Using the Revision Manager Tool

The Revision Manager allows you to view, retrieve, and compare a list of the revisions of a file.

To open the Revision Manager, from the Windows Explorer or the Document Explorer, right-click any file, and select Revision History.

The Revision Manager appears:

 


The Revision Manager displays the following document properties:

·Title – Optional descriptive text that explains the role of this file in the project. Click to enter the document title and description. On the first line, provide a short sentence that is used as the document title. You may provide additional details on following lines.  
·Locked by – Displays the name of the user that locked the file for editing. When working with branches, every branch may have a single locker.  
·File type – CS-RCS supports both text and binary files. This type must match the document content. The type defined in the File types tab of the Properties is used to determine the type of new files added to the repository.  

The Revision Manager displays the following revision properties:
·Revision number – A unique identifier assigned to the revision in the archive. This number has an internal meaning only.  
·Symbolic name – The revision's symbolic name, if specified.  
·Check-in Date – The date this revision was created.  
·Author Name – The user that checked-in this revision.  
·State – The current revision state. For more information, refer to Defining the Change states in Change States and Workflow Management.  

The Revision Manager dialog box allows you to perform the following:
·Sort the list by clicking the desired column header. Re-click the same column header to reverse the sorting order.  
·Place your cursor over any revision in the list to view the revision change title.  
·Click View Revision to view the selected revision. For more information, refer to View Revision Dialog later in this chapter.  
·Click Retrieve Revision to save the selected revision to disk.  
·Click Compare Revisions to view the changes between the selected revision and any other revision.  
·Click Report to generate a detailed change report for the file. For more information, refer to Revision History Report in Generating CS-RCS Reports.  
·Click RLOG Report to view a text-only report for the file.  
 
When you right-click a selected version, the right-click menu appears. The right-click menu allows you to perform the following additional commands:
·Click View Revision to view the selected revision.  
·Click Retrieve Revision to save the selected revision to disk.  
·Click Compare Revisions to view the changes between the selected revision and any other revision.  
·Click Edit Description to edit the description you gave to the selected revision.  
·Click Edit Symbolic Name to edit the symbolic name you gave to the selected revision.  
·Click Set State to set the workflow state of the selected revision. For more information, refer to Applying States.  
·Click Sort by to sort the listed revisions by one of the following categories: Revision Number, Symbolic Name, Check-in Date, or Author.  
·Click Reverse Order to reverse the order of the listed revisions.
