How should I define a shared work folder on the server?
Top  Previous  Next

You should define 'Everyone' (or a group that includes all developers) as the 'Owner' of the shared work folder. All files created in the folder will have the group owner. This will allow any user to set the file permissions according to the RCS status.

To do so:
1.Locate the folder using Windows Explorer.
2.Right-click on the folder and select 'Properties'
3.Switch to the 'Security' tab.
4.Click 'Advanced'
5.Switch to the 'Owner' tab.
6.Select the desired group, or click 'Other Users or Groups…'
7.Select the 'Replace owner on subcontainer...' option
8.Click OK.

Note: Windows 2000 and Windows XP disallow assigning of groups as owners of files and folders. You must use Windows 2003 (or higher) to host the shared work folder.
