How should I start using CS-RCS on a multi-platform environment?
Top  Previous  Next

If you have a CVS server installed on your Unix server, you can use the CS-CVS add-on. For full details, see:
http://www.componentsoftware.com/products/cvs/

To start using CS-RCS on a multi-platform disk-sharing environment:
1.Read the standard installation FAQ.
2.Install CS-RCS using a Windows shared drive as the Repository root. This ensures that your workstations are valid.
3.Verify that your UNIX server meets the following requirements:
·All Windows workstations must have read/write/delete access. To verify this, using the Windows Explorer, create a file from a Windows workstation. From another workstation, modify that file, and then delete it. Repeat this trial for all your workstations.
·The server must support long file names. To verify this, create a long file name (e.g., file.txt.tst) from a Windows workstation.
·The server should preserve mixed-case names, otherwise you will have problems using mixed-case names. To verify this, create a mixed-case file name (e.g., MyTest.txt) from a UNIX terminal. Modify the file from a Windows workstation. Verify that the file name has been preserved.
4.Install CS-RCS selecting the Multi-platforms option and specifying a shared UNIX drive as the Repository root.

The following are verified products that can be configured to use CS-RCS :
·Samba – Public-domain SMB server for UNIX (http://samba.anu.edu.au/samba/).
·Hummingbird's Maestro NFS client.
Note: Many NFS clients require that all Windows workstations must share the same UNIX username, otherwise files created by one user cannot be modified by another user.
