How can I control binary files with CS-RCS?

You may select any binary file (such as MS-Word document or an image) and add it to the RCS. CS-RCS will automatically detect the file type and archive it using a binary archive format.

The differences between text and binary files are:

1.There is no built-in difference analysis tool for binary files (except for MS-Word documents). However, you may configure a ComponentSoftware add-on, or a 3rd party tool if available (see below).
2.MS-Word and MS-Excel document tags are updated by CS-RCS whenever a new revision is checked-in. RCS keywords are not expanded for other binary files.
3.CS-RCS uses an advanced reverse-delta method to store the changes between revisions. This method is very effective for text files. For binary files, CS-RCS implements several methods and automatically selects the method that best matches the file's data. You may also select the method manually in the File Types tab of the CS-RCS Properties dialog.
